As I mentioned before the plank can be a very boring exercise and you still have some people that do not want to progress once them or their clients can progress. This plank variation in coordination with a lateral pull through (with a weighted apparatus) across the body can be difficult for those who do not have adequate core strenght. Of course the muscles worked is the core, grip strength, arm shoulder, shoulder strength and hits all the muscles of the back.
Additionally, this is one example of the "serape effect", where we are training the "crisscross" portion of the body creating optimal length-tension for force production and maximizing the rhomboids, serratus anterior, external obliques, and internal obliques that are used in sports and life... just like the medicine ball, stability ball and band work you do.
