These are tough but they are all about control in the front side of the body where sometimes there is a lack of power supply when in the normal erect position. Zercher holds bring another dimension to one's training, especially athlete's when their sport requires them to hold for a specific amount of time and/or when controlling from the front.
Additionally, the Zercher variations like all of our other lifts. (squats/deadlifts and others) give us that posterior chain love that helps us and athletes be more functional on the playing surface and in life.
With these, my stance was smaller than shoulder-width stance and remember the hip hinge motion.
I don't prefer keeping an arch in the lower back, some do.
I kept my legs straight but as I pushed my butt back knees and lower back feel into proper alignment.
Now with the regular RDL, you'll feel a stretch in your hamstrings but these give you some work in the glutes as well.
Like the regular RDL's there is submaxed activation in the backside of the posterior chain but also a transfer of power because your balancing the bar and maintaining control while focusing on sitting the hips back.
Additionally, you can see you must try and keep a neutral spine, proper body alignment because that bar will take you forward or make you round your back a little.
@joelseedman has a great trap bar zercher variation that is beneficial as well.
